It's been a good start to the year for the socials with nothing but great feedback especially with regards the food, ambience and entertainment. The Chef and his staff have made significant efforts this year and this is evident in the quality of food and service delivered at each event so far.

New Year's Eve kicked off the year with an elegant black tie event and 5 course meal. Much fun was had by all and I think the over exuberant dancing at the end was put down to both the champagne reception and the great musician who seemed to be able to play any song with any stringed instrument.

Shortly following this event, we had a Burns Night on the 25th January to celebrate the life of the great poet Robert Burns or Rabbie to his mates. This was a great success. An even larger turnout than for New Year's Eve, a tremendous Bag Piper, great informative and humorous speeches from Mr Captain, Hazel Foster and Tam Donnelly and last but not least really good food. Having never had Haggis myself, I was truly surprised and have had it again since.  Like most Burns Nights, this evening lasted longer than New Year's Eve and something we will look to do again.

There were too many highlights for Valentine's Day, but the main ones were the brilliant Lyn and her fabulous voice - so good she got Monty Milner trying to breakdance to Angels by Robbie Williams - the clubhouse was decorated superbly by Garry Aspinall and the Ladies' Section - again, the food was undeniably good with Mr Vice Captain claiming it was one of the best fish dishes he had ever had and this was not influenced by the complimentary bottles of wine on each table.  Again, the attendance here was even larger than Burns Night.

Photos of the above events will be going on the website shortly so please keep an eye out.

Key events coming up are St George's Day on Friday 23rd April which is already looking to be another popular event especially as it includes some fun golf, a good roast and a brass band playing some of our favourites such as Jerusalem and I am sure a couple of James Bond numbers. Sheets are already up around the club, so get your names down and I look forward to seeing you down there!

With some golf Majors coming up as well as the football World Cup, these events will be screened at the golf club with some fun games to run alongside it such as sweepstakes.

We are trying to 'mix it up' this year regards events so that every member is interested in at least one event. If you have any suggestions, requests or ideas for any events that may appeal to you, please feel free to get in touch either on 07747-442737 or dochughes@btinternet.com.

Many thanks,
